Alison was commissioned by National Trust for Scotland and The Glenlivet Whisky to record stories about illicit whisky distilling in Scotland. She wrote Shaking the Spirit, based on the stories she collected, for The Underground Whisky Club.
Her research took her to meet a former exciseman, several whisky experts and many people with illicit whisky distilling stories in their families. She was taken to see the remains of some whisky stills in Torridon by NTS’s footpath manager.
Her own family history includes the story of her great-great grandfather who was imprisoned in New Zealand for the illegal distillation of whisky.
